Standards for Swimming Pools and Spas

Standards cover electrical safety, installation, plumbing safety and electromagnetic compatibility for swimming pools and spas (Transportable and Conventional Baths), including pool pumps, pool and spa heaters, pool lights, solar heaters and collectors, and chlorinators. Note that switches, cords, plugs and power points used with pool and spa heaters should be tested to relevant Australian standards.

Other regulations

  • Plumbing fittings used with swimming pool and spa equipment should be certified under the WaterMark scheme.
  • The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) may still regulate AS/NZS CISPR 14.1:2007 Electromagnetic Compatibility - Requirements for household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus – Emission.  This standard has been superseded by the 2010 edition.
