Standards for Fans

Due to the harsh climate in Australia, people often rely on fans for cooling their homes and offices.  In the past, fires have been attributed to fans and there are other risks associated with these appliances.

Standards for Cooking Appliances

Serious injuries (including burns) and house fires can result from unsafe cooking appliances.  There are a range of electrical safety standards covering these appliances. Note that there are additional standards relating to cords, plugs, sockets, outlet devices and appliance connectors.

Standards for Cleaning Appliances

Cleaning appliances sold in Australia must be tested to electrical safety, installation and electromagnetic compatibility standards. Flexible supply cords and plugs used with cleaning appliances should also be tested to relevant standards.

Standards for Audio, Television and Entertainment Products

Standards and associated regulation cover televisions, radios, audio/entertainment products, set top boxes, computer games, amusement machines, docking stations, DVD/CD players and projectors. Note that additional standards relating to battery chargers and transformers may also apply, along with standards covering cords, cables, plugs, sockets, outlet devices and appliance connectors.

Standards for Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps

Standards for air conditioners, heat pumps and dehumidifiers cover electrical safety, energy efficiency, acoustic, installation and electromagnetic compatibility. The most relevant standards and regulation are listed below. Note that flexible supply cords and plugs used with air-conditioners and heat pumps should be tested to relevant standards.
